All the world’s an arcade.

My nephew and I spent a two-player day at the local arcade this week. This place is straight out of the Eighties. One can play pool, pinball, air hockey, car racing, basketball hoops, Space Invaders, Defender, Donkey Kong, Pac-Man, Ms. Pac-Man, Mortal Combat, and Dance Dance Revolution.

In proper parlance, it was totally rad!

The owners sell comics, action figures, and graphic novels. They sell snacks and drinks. They have a claw machine—a device in which I grabbed a Homer Simpson stuffed animal for my dog. Score!

At the risk of sounding like a throw-back kind of guy who harbors disdain for the current state of the world, it’s nice to hang out with the family without the presupposition that only Internet-related activities are fun.
